I’ve rewatched the ad at least three times to try and figure out why some folks are angry with it and I’m at a loss.  All I see here is: Be a better human. Set a better example. Encouraging strength of character and integrity over typical “machismo”.

but to be very blunt and very serious - it really is disturbing how you can look at fashion magazine spreads, teen magazine spreads and other media depicting teen girl trends/fashion and see how girls dressed in the 90′s, early - mid 2000′s compared to now.

i mean 1998 - 1999

and people always say “if you look at teenage girls and see sexualization, then you’re the pervert” but .. i just don’t get that line of reasoning. how can you be so naive to look at how media, modeling companies, clothing companies, etc are treating teenage girls ( some of which aren’t even teenagers - but as young as 10,11, 12 years old ) and say “nope, nothing to see here :) but if you call out the problem then YOU’RE the creep” instead of acknowledging that aforementioned companies are blatantly and intentionally producing clothing that is more and more revealing, less and less age appropriate, portraying girls in more sexualized ways as years go on, peddling these themes through social media, televised media, advertising, etc. i mean, that’s the same line of reasoning of “if you look at this picture of barack and michelle obama depicted as monkeys as being racist -then you’re actually the racist one for thinking that black people are monkeys!” when the artist of the photo is the one who blatantly and obviously was being racist.

Lol have you seen Instagram?

I’ve personally known girls (underage) who actually post what would considered child porn (partially or near fully nude/provocative poses) pictures of themselves while hoards of “feminists”, minor AND adult, cheered them on. I’ve watched the same girls continue to post sexually suggestive photos while their peers/fans encouraged them and adult men made sexually explicit comments under the pictures. I usually cant tell the difference between teen and adult women anymore, especially on Instagram. And it keeps getting worse. Attention, sex appeal, a huge following and validation is everything right now. That’s all that matters and if you dare call out what’s wrong with how teenage girls are being advertised as sex objects, you’re degrading and “slut shaming” them. I just want kids to be able to be kids and seeing my 13 year old cousin snap chatting her full face of makeup is disturbing enough

when i say pedophile culture this is exactly what im referring to, its sick and twisted. theyre children that look like adults and under no circumstance should that be okay. i have so much fear for this generation of girls and im scared sick of how its going to just keep getting worse.

What bothers me the most is young girls can no longer have an awkward phase. As soon as they become aware of fashion trends and the media, the immediately start copying these behaviors and become what they see. There isn’t a time to truly figure out who they are. Maybe it’s because of the internet culture, advertising, lack of patrental guidance or a combination of all three.

The fact is young girls (and boys to a certain extent) have a shorter childhood now.

Chinese Kids Are Getting Their Parents, Their Parents’ Parents, And Their Parents’ Parents’ Parents Involved In A Meme

There’s a new meme in China, and it’s very wholesome. The challenge, called “four generations,” includes four generations of family members making an appearance, from youngest to oldest. A son would call his dad, who then calls his dad, who then calls his dad. And a daughter would call her mom, who calls her mom, who calls her mom. The results are super cute.

The videos are being shared on video app Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, under the challenge name, “Four generations under one roof.”

This is legit the cutest and most wholesome meme omg

My family has 4 cats. 3 are indoor/outdoor, while one stays indoor. The one that is "mine" stays indoors. I get so scared when my stepmom simply boots them out into the winter. One time our youngest was lost in the snow for like 4 days in -17°C (~1.5°F) temps with winds at like 40 mph. I was so mad at her, I told her the cat's passing was 100% her fault and she shouldn't be allowed to have animals. We found the kitty alive and well but I won't let her near that cat anymore.

omg like even if there were no problems w/ outside cats, who the hell puts their cats outside in a middle of winter and not expect them to possibly freeze to death????

@zoologicallyobsessed this is all I can think about while watching/participating in these stupid arguments about outdoor cats

image
image

@slightlyunderokayartist I can’t believe you genuinely think the “enrichment” your cat gets from going outside is worth him possibly being run over, mauled by a dog/raccoon/possum/etc, being poisoned, or otherwise being severely hurt or killed. What’s it like caring that little for the well-being of your cat?

You are not a cat. Your cat does not understand the risks of the outside, nor does he understand the ecological damage every time he hunts birds or other animals for fun. You may be able to conceptualize the idea of taking risks and doing risky things, but your cat does not. He does not understand it is risky to stand in the middle of the road, or eat strange food left outside by assholes that purposefully poison cats. He isn’t capable of weighing the risks and benefits of walking out your door. YOU are his owner, and it is YOUR job to make decisions that keep him safe and healthy.

If you genuinely cared about the value of enrichment for your cat you would give him that enrichment indoors, harness train him, or have an enclosure for him outside.

Cats are cats. They aren’t dogs, or babies, or hamsters, or teddies, or antique china ornaments. They are wild animals that also enjoy hugs.

If you have objections to letting them go outside, choose another pet.

Funny you mention hamsters because cats have been domesticated for way longer and hamsters are much more of a wild animal than they are.

It’s also really ecologically irresponsible for you to release non native wild animals into new biomes, that’s how we wind up with invasive starlings and sparrows and rats and weasels. If you think the cat is a wild animal that’s all the more reason you shouldn’t let it outside and instead just not keep it as a pet at all.

God people are so damn frustrating about this topic I legit sometimes think it should be made illegal to have outdoor cats because its obvious no one that advocates for them knows a damn thing about cats and therefore shouldn’t own one anyway!

For one thing we don’t release tigers in the middle of Canadian forests just because they’re “wild animals”. Not all predators are equally good in every environmental which is like grade 2 biology knowledge. Cats are an invasive species, allowing them to compete with local predators not only puts a bunch of pressure on them but also does the same to the prey animal(s) leading to potential extinction of one or more species WHICH BTW ISN’T JUST A HYPOTHETICAL THING! We know domestic cats have been the major factor behind several species going extinct in the modern era and other being pushed to that brink. On top of all that nature is finely balanced so those types of extinction often have a domino effect where adjacent species either have their population grow out of control or themselves go extinct. Like its bad enough humans habitation is fucking up everything without our literal pets doing their part in that.

And that’s all just discussing predatory nature of cats as a species, we have yet to come into the topic of disease vectoring! You’ve heard of rabies, right? Well there’s a bunch of diseases/parasites out there that can get spread to you by your cat which wouldn’t be the case if your cat wasn’t roaming the street like literally no other domesticated animal is allowed to do… you know because that’s fucking reckless! So not only is your cat’s health at a massive risk by doing this nonsense your entire freakin’ family is put at risk by doing it as well. Also yes if you’re wondering it goes in reverse too because your cats has its own range of diseases and parasites natives species can’t handle. So yeah, even if your dang cat isn’t intentionally killing things they’re doing it anyway just by existing in the same space.

Like this is not unreasonable: cats are a domesticated species which wild counterparts are almost certainly not even native to where you live. They shouldn’t be allowed to freely run around not only for their sake but for the sake of literally everyone else too! If you cannot keep an animal that sleeps the vast majority of the day entertained you are clearly unfit to keep that animal. No excuses like “baaaah I can’t afford cat food/I can’t figure out how to potty train them”. If you’re clearly that bad of a fit for a cat that you can’t get the most basic shit together give them to someone else that actually knows how to be responsible.

Cats don’t deserve to have the neglect of their care so normalized by people so fucking ignorant of EVERYTHING POSSIBLE THING ON THE TOPIC they think they’re the actual good guys here. Eat my entire ass, I rather see a goldfish in a tiny bowl than this shit. At least fish care fuck ups doesn’t result in in multiple bird species going extinct and their owner getting like worms or some shit.

nobody wants to admit it but lgbt representation in almost all media is in a really bad place right now

everybody wants to pretend we’re in a renaissance when in reality we’re in a dark age, where bury your gays, stereotyping, baiting, and “implying” is at an all time high in popular media. The truth is that people have realized because of the abyssmally low bar that LGBT people have for representation in media, most of us will lap up any scraps they give us. LGBT representation isn’t a statement any more, it’s a clever ploy to get the support of a community while giving them so little that they don’t alienate bigots in the process, and the bar needs to be set higher or else we’ll only see this cycle continue

like at the same time that we begin to worry that last-second gays (see legend of korra or adventure time) or constant teasing and not outright saying it (see adventure time again) will become the new norm because of the overwhelming praise minimal effort garners, both LGBT people, allies, and fandoms at large only continue to encourage that behavior.

See the brownie points that the above shows actually got for doing that and suddenly it’s not that much of a mystery why representation has been so stagnant, and see how the “representation” in shows like she-ra and star vs. is given praise despite falling into those exact same patterns.

We already kind of popped the “gays in kids media” and “non-comedic/stereotyped gays in media” cherries so we have to actually raise the bar to a point where we’re actually portrayed with the same mundanity and respect as straight people get.

Completely disagreed.

This take completely ignores what goes on behind the scenes to get us as much representation as we’ve been getting these last few years. The “little scraps” we see on screen were fought for by people that were risking losing their jobs to get even that much past executives who consistently try to shut it down because it limits marketability, especially in countries where it will be censored due to anti-gay laws.

I was never in Adventure Time fandom, but I feel like whittling Bubbline down to “last minute rep” just…totally ignores the actual history of that pairing. How several people on the team fully intended for them to be a couple, but were unable to explicitly show it. Someone even lost their job after saying they were a couple in little video segment talking about the show.

Also, you’re just…totally ignoring the fact LGBT creators themselves are in the industry trying to affect changes. Rebecca Sugar and Noelle Stevenson (the creator of She Ra reboot) immediately come to mind, who you’ve kind of just written off as baiting people when she herself is gay.

Basically, this is a completely bad faith take that doesn’t seem to really grasp at what’s actually happening. Of course we should be demanding more, and of course it’s lame that we have to. But saying that the stuff we’re getting isn’t just not enough, but actively bad is just…not gonna help anything. We need to stop putting down honest effort and writing it off as people “just looking for brownie points” (which is a line I hear a LOT from anti-progressives, so it’s really disheartening to hear OUR side is trotting it out now) ESPECIALLY when a lot of what we do see on the screen is the result of LGBT people in the industry risking it all to be represented.
